Thalir Summer Camp Concludes, Inspiring Young Minds to Embrace Nature and Sustainability

Trivandrum – 11/05/2024– Thalir Summer Camp, an immersive program designed to educate and inspire children about nature, safe food and sustainability, has concluded its successful run, leaving a lasting impact on participants.

Over the course of the five days, 25 children aged from 7 to 15 had the opportunity to engage in a variety of educational and hands-on activities aimed at fostering a deeper connection with the natural world. Led by experienced educators and environmentalists, the campers explored topics such as biodiversity, sustainable farming practices, waste management, and conservation.

Highlights of the camp included:

– Sustainable Arts and Crafts by Artist John Baby:Children had the opportunity to express their creativity while learning about creating crafts from coconut leaves from renowned artist John Baby.

– Terracotta Session by Rosa Abraham:Participants got their hands dirty and learned the art of terracotta pottery under the guidance of expert potter Rosa Abraham.

– Session on Safe Food and Nutrition by Usha Soolapani: Environmentalist and agricultural expert Usha Soolapani led an informative session on the importance of healthy eating and sustainable food choices.

– Climate Change and Climate Adaptive Skills by C Jayakumar, Executive Director Thanal:Campers learned about climate change and acquired valuable skills to adapt to its effects from esteemed environmentalist C Jayakumar.

The camp concluded with an exciting Bird Watching and Nature Walk to Kallar led by ornithologist and Thanal Director Raju Kavil and Wildlife Biologist Dr. Mirium Abraham.

“Last 5 days were great learning and life changing experience for my daughter Gowri.She came to realize that even small acts can make a big difference to our mother earth.Summer camp has been successful in instilling a new dimension to their outlook and brought them close to nature.” Lakshmi, mother of a summer camp participant shared her love and appreciation for the camp.
