At the Govt. LPS School in Madamon North, Ranni, access to water had become increasingly difficult.
A damaged rainwater harvesting system meant the school had to depend on externally purchased water for drinking and sanitation, a costly and unreliable solution that directly affected around 50 tribal children and school staff.
Seasonal shortages made everyday school activities harder, impacting hygiene, comfort, and the learning environment.
To address this challenge, Thanal Trust, with support from UST through its CSR programme, installed a new 20,000-litre rainwater harvesting system within the school campus.
The system was inaugurated on 9 January 2023, restoring on-site water access and reducing the school’s dependence on purchased water. The rainwater harvesting system is currently fully functional and continues to provide reliable water security for the school community, serving as a sustainable, low-maintenance solution tailored to local needs.
What Changed
With the new system in place:
- Clean water is now available on campus for daily use
- Drinking and sanitation needs are met consistently

- The school is better prepared for seasonal water scarcity
