Held from March 1 to 3, this seed festival shined a spotlight on the vital role of farmers in environmental protection. With traditional seed exhibitions, culinary delights from Wayanad’s diverse cultures, and captivating tribal art performances, the Thirunelli Seed Festival champions seed conservation and biodiversity preservation. Inaugurated by MLA Mr. O. R. Kelu and graced by esteemed guests like District Collector Dr. Renu Raj IAS, the festival underscored the critical role of farmers in environmental protection. Collaborating organizations such as Kudumbasree, Keystone Foundation, and Thirunelli Agri Producer Company Limited facilitated educational seminars and zero-waste initiatives, promoting a greener, more sustainable future.
Meenangadi Climate Summit: Empowering Youth for Sustainable Futures
The Meenangadi Climate Summit and Agricultural Exhibition- Jaathire, held from February 23 to 25, galvanized Wayanad’s youth towards ‘carbon neutrality’ and ‘climate action’. Inaugurated by Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Mr. P. Prasad, the summit underscored the pivotal role of youth farmers in mitigating climate change. Keynote addresses and the unveiling of the ‘Carbon Neutral Wayanad Report’ highlighted the urgency for sustainable practices. Partnerships between Meenangadi Gram Panchayat and Thanal showcased initiatives like organic farming and waste management, crucial steps towards ‘Carbon neutral Wayanad’.
Pioneering Sustainability: The Carbon Neutral Wayanad Report A landmark achievement in Wayanad’s sustainability journey, the ‘Carbon Neutral Wayanad’ report signifies a collaborative effort between Thanal and the District Panchayat. Unveiled during the Wayanad Climate Conclave, this comprehensive document outlines strategies for achieving ‘carbon neutrality’ in the district. The report’s release marked a significant milestone, positioning Wayanad as a leader in ‘climate action’ and ‘sustainability’.
Thanal’s Emission Reduction Activities: Driving Sustainable Change
In addition to organizing awareness programs, Thanal plays a pivotal role in advancing carbon neutrality across Wayanad. Through initiatives such as tree banking, zero-waste management, and solar-powered irrigation systems, the organization continues to promote sustainable development.
Furthermore, three dedicated stalls were established during the exhibitions to provide information and awareness materials on Carbon Neutral Meenangadi, Agroecology and Biodiversity Monitoring, and Zero Waste Management. Likewise, Meenangadi Gram Panchayat and Thanal collaborated to display posters highlighting ward-level activities, the impacts of climate change on Wayanad, and the progress of the Carbon Neutral Meenangadi initiative.
